Indonesians in Afghanistan evacuated to Indonesia – Taliban rule, ‘entire population panics’

Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi confirmed that Indonesian citizens (WNI) had been evacuated from Kabul, Afghanistan. They will arrive in Indonesia on a flight from Afghanistan via Pakistan.
“Alhamdullilah, the Indonesian government has succeeded in evacuating Indonesian citizens from Kabul, Afghanistan with Indonesian Air Force aircraft. The aircraft is currently in Islamabad to continue flights to Indonesia,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in her Twitter account Friday afternoon (20/08).
The Foreign Minister continued that the evacuation team brought 26 Indonesian citizens, including Indonesian Embassy staff, 5 Filipino citizens, and 2 Afghan citizens (husbands of Indonesian citizens and local Indonesian Embassy staff).
Earlier, an Indonesian citizen who was in Kabul told of what he witnessed when the Taliban took control of the Afghan capital, a condition he described as “panic and fear”.
Regarding the Afghan government after being controlled by the Taliban, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “the process is still very fluid” and will wait for further developments.
Middle East Political Researcher from LIPI, Nostalgiawan Wahyudhi, assessed that this step was the right one by not rashly admitting or conversely rejecting the new government formed by the Taliban.
