Five security officers including two soldiers were killed at the weekend by Unknown Gun men

Five security officers including two soldiers were killed at the weekend by suspected separatists in Nigeria’s Port Harcourt oil hub, according to a police memo seen Monday by AFP.

Southeastern Nigeria is experiencing a spate of attacks on security forces, controlled by members of the Biafran Indigenous People (IPOB), a separatist group campaigning for Biafra independence.

“Unidentified persons attacked a police station in the southern city of Okigwe,” Imo state police spokesman Orlando Ikokwu told AFP.

“Five policemen killed while one was missing,” he said.

A resident of Okigwe, however, claimed to have seen the bodies of six policemen who were killed.

“Early Monday morning, we saw people in a police station minibus, shooting at the entrance and killing six policemen who were trying to fight them,” said one of them, Festus Okoye.

In Owerri, the capital of Imo state, clashes also broke out between men and security forces on Monday evening, several statements told AFP.
